The Blyth Adventure
Last
week for a change we took an adventure down to Blyth to take a deek at the NTA
set up in Spencer Court. When we got there we met the Blyth Employment Trainers
for E2E, Jane and Carol. Jane comes down to Berwick once a week on Wednesdays to
do radge exam things to do with literacy and numeracy skills. Carol showed us
round the facilities that NTA have in Blyth. They have some interesting
equipment such as lots of computers with broadband and internet connections, a
Hi Fi where you can play your own music, refreshments, microwave, toaster and
vending machine. Hopefully we will have that sort of equipment in Berwick
sometime soon, perhaps next week?
We went on the computers to start
with while we were awaiting our instructions on what to do. We played games on
the computer for a while then we got told to get off the computers got told what
to do. We were instructed to fill in an E2E passport on the internet, while
Carol kindly made up our master folders. While all of that was being done we
listened to the Metallica CD that Graeme brought in from home.
We went over to see Gemma in the
admin offices. It's Gemma that makes sure our EMA money comes through on a
weekly basis.
Before we went home we were took a
deek around the motor vehicle & construction training facilities and took the
pictures on this page. We learned more about what goes on in each section. The
first section we went into after leaving the E2E training room was the
motor/mechanic training workshop, there was a car that they were fixing up and
the hood was still open so we decided to take a pic of that. Before we left the
motor vehicle shop we met one of the instructors and he explained about the
courses and offered to send up some pix via email to add to this article. He was
a sound guy who wound Graeme up a bit about getting permission to take
photographs - we thought he was serious. He had 750cc Honda in the shed
but wouldn't let us play on it. Mark started prattling on about a Suzuki Ninja
but was quickly sorted out by Graeme and our resident expert that its a Kawasaki
- shows how much mark knows - he still likes BMX. After that we went over to the
construction area where we took some more pix of a little shed they were
building, they also make wheel barrows and sell them for about £10 that goes
towards paying for away days such as paint balling, laser quest and stuff.
All and all a decent day out, an
other Brick in the Wall, learning how the other half live.
