Michelle Parkins would like to
have a career in the catering industry, the article below describes what
she would like to do and how to achieve here goal
I have always wanted a job working with
food. I wanted to be a Chef because I like cooking at home, so I got a
Saturday job in Thistle Do Nicely in the kitchen to gain some experience
and I really enjoy it. The jobs I do in the kitchen are making the
scones, tray bakes, make up the sandwich fillings and the salads, and
some time the puddings and soups.
I
would like a job as a Food Technician because I did my work experience
in the General Mills (Jus- Roll) I found it very interesting and
enjoyable. The jobs I did on my work experience were tasting sausage
rolls and cookies to see if we could taste anything different, make up
different kind of sauces and helped make some of the products to send
away to the shops. I also helped on a sensory test, A sensory test is
where you have a plate with 3 sections and numbers, in each of the
sections two of the tasters is from the same recipes and the other one
has a change in the recipe, people look and taste the product if they
can tell the difference. I also tested the flan cases, and did a line
trial to see how a new product worked on the machine, the line trial is
a new product on the production line and you have to watch and write
down any problems that occurs.
I am hoping to go to College to study The
National Diploma Applied Science or the BTEC National Food and Catering
